Furthermore, there are four major purposes: the expository, which aims at providing information to an audience, the narrative, which consists in entertaining an audience, the persuasive, which expects to convince an audience, and the descriptive, which aims at giving a detailed account of something. When an author’s chief purpose is to entertain, the reader they will endeavor to keep things as interesting as possible. In the process of informing the reader, the author will make use of facts and this is one surefire way to spot the intent to inform. Added to textbooks, we also have encyclopedias, recipe books, and newspapers. Many types of school books are written with the express purpose of informing the reader. Think of the content as building blocks that must fit together to build a cohesive seminar. Next, organize the material into manageable sections, making sure there's a logical flow. Informational texts are geared toward imparting information to the reader with the purpose of educating them on a given topic. Your audience will enjoy hearing interesting facts that are useful but not common knowledge. Often, they will do this by providing lots of facts. When an author’s purpose is to inform, they usually wish to enlighten their readership about a real-world topic. ![]()
